Wendy Smith

Campus Legal Counsel - Springfield

Wendy joined the office in 2023 after more than fifteen years of experience in public higher education in Illinois.   She focuses her practice on student affairs, policy work, Title IX, threat assessment, immigration, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, First Amendment, and other student related areas.  Her lifelong passion for higher education underlies the counsel she provides to university clients. Wendy worked at the University of Illinois in student affairs for eight years and served as a law clerk for the Office of University Counsel.  After graduating law school, she was in private practice handling civil rights, first amendment, and employment matters.  Wendy is licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois and the Northern District of Illinois (federal) and is a member of the National Associate of College and University Attorneys.
